BMW Motorrad has just released some great teaser videos to get us ready for the upcoming launch of the K1600s. Titled “Two Machines. A Single Source.”, one of the videos shows us the engine which will, according to all rumors, set new standards in the touring segment of motorcycles. The K1600GT and K1600GTL will possess the lightest (weighing just 226 lbs) and most compact (measuring only 22.05” [560mm] in width) 6-cylinder, in-line engine ever fitted in a serial production motorcycle. Engine output will be 160 hp @ 7,500 rpm with peak torque of 129 lb-ft at 5000rpm. 70 percent of maximum torque will be available from only 1,500 rpm making this one of the most powerful bikes available on the market, and ideally suited to its role as a relaxed touring machine.
Additional details and images of these upcoming BMWs can be seen on our initial news post, “K1600GT and K1600GT Announced” or view photos from our gallery page. The full specs and production photos of the two K1600 models themselves will be released in early October at INTERMOT, the World’s premier motorcycle show, held in Cologne, Germany.
For now, all we can do is just enjoy the video…
Also released are quick clips of David Robb, BMW Motorrad’s chief designer discussing his philosophy of motorcycle design in general and a glimpse into the fascinating design process of the new K1600 models.
