BMW Motorrad has been on a roll — not just on the road but in award competitions as well. In the 13th annual reader’s choice awards from the German Motorrad magazine, BMW took first place in four categories and reached the “podium” in three others. The 2011 awards were presented at the Motorräder Dortmund show in Dortmund, Germany on March 3, 2011.
In the “Touring” category, the R1200RT won with 20.2 percent of the vote while the new K1600GT/GTL (which isn’t yet available to customers) received second place with 19.6 percent. That’s nearly 40 percent of reader’s votes in this category going to big BMW touring machines! The S1000RR, just as last year, ran away with the “Sport” category — with 33 percent of the vote it won an unchallenged first place — with the HP2 Sport coming in third. The R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure received first place in the “Enduro/Supermoto” category with 25.5 percent of the vote. And BMW kept first place in the “Naked Bikes” category, as it had in the last two years, with the upcoming R1200R and R1200R Classic. BMW “settled” for second place in the “Allround” category with the K1300S.
