For the first three months of this year, BMW Motorrad sold 23,109 motorcycles — an increase of 10.9% compared to the previous year — which is its best quarterly result in its history. Husqvarna Motorcycles likewise had a good quarterly showing delivering 1,940 motorcycles to customers in its first quarter — an increase of 18.3%. March 2011 sales, however, did not continue the increases of the first two months. BMW Motorrad sold a total of 11,675 motorcycles (up only 1.2%) while Husqvarna sold 676 motorcycles (down 17%) in the month of March.
While BMW Motorrad USA has not released their sales numbers, BMW Motorrad Canada says their motorcycle sales were down 27.5% for the first quarter (235 units sold) but expect sales to rebound with the arrival of 2011 models including the K1600.
On the automobile side, the BMW Group sold more vehicles in March than in any month before. The company sold a total of 165,842 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles in the past month. Not only significantly exceeding the figure for March of last year (141,717 units, +17%) but also the previous sales high of 152,721 vehicles recorded in December 2007. The company’s sales for the quarter also achieved a new high: 382,758 units were sold (a 21.3% increase compared to previous year sales of 315,630).
BMW: With sales of 134,892 vehicles (prev. yr.: 117,706), more BMW brand vehicles were sold in a single month than ever before. Volume climbed 14.6% compared to March 2010. Sales for the first three months of the year reached 321,175 vehicles (prev. yr. 265,819). This represents an increase of 20.8% over the first three months of last year.
MINI: At 30,689 units (+28.5%), MINI sales easily exceeded the brand’s previous monthly best from 2008. A total of 60,860 vehicles were sold in the first quarter of 2011. This represents a sales increase of 22.9% compared with the first three months of last year.
Rolls-Royce: A total of 261 (prev. yr. 125, +108.8%) automobiles were received by customers in March 2011. For the first three months, the number of Rolls-Royce motor cars delivered climbed 159.1% to 723 (prev. yr. 279) vehicles.
