With James Toseland continuing to recuperate from the broken wrist suffered while preparing for the Donington WSBK race, the BMW Motorrad Italia SBK Team has decided to substitute Barry Veneman (34) for the next round of the Superbike World Championship on April 15-17. Barry is a native of the Netherlands and is therefore familiar with the TT Circuit in Assen, Netherlands and can help the team set up the bikes for the event.
Barry has previous experience racing the BMW S1000RR at the German IDM Championship (which he’ll race again in 2011) as well as participating in several developmental tests with the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Team. He also has fairly good experience in international competitions including a season in the MotoGP World Championship (riding a two-stroke 500), various races in the Supersport World Championship and winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Suzuki in 2010 (as part of the Endurance Championship) after also taking third place in 2008.
