Thanks to our sister publication in Germany, BMW Motorräder, we have the first photos of the new retro roadster from BMW. Rumor has it this last “air-cooled” boxer model will be finally presented to the public on October 16th. Its existence was originally teased during the EICMA show in 2012. Only a few weeks before the official launch, some pre-production copies of the “NineT” are apparently traveling in the northern Italian region of Lake Garda. A reader of the popular German motorcycle magazine photographed the new models as they stopped to refuel in Rovereto, Italy.
Clearly visible in the snapshots are the essential details: the “old” air- and oil-cooled 1200cc boxer engine, the upside-down telescopic forks similar to the S1000RR, and the elongated tank — probably made of aluminum sheet and merely coated with clear lacquer. Both the standard exhaust system as well as an Akrapovic brand with two stacked silencers can be seen. The photographer reported a “killer boxer sound.”
Basic data is said to be: 120 hp, 80+ ft-lbs (110 Nm) of torque and weighing about 460 pounds (210 kg) fully fueled. Our guess for price: €13000-14000, $15-17,000. More detailed information will be available soon — no later than October 16th. Stay tuned!
