On April 1, 2014, Prof. Dr. Karl Viktor Schaller (55) will take over as head of BMW Motorrad development from Dr. Christian Landerl. Landerl (53) headed motorcycle development since November 2008 and will now lead development of the automobile petrol engine division.

Prof. Dr. Schaller studied mechanical engineering from 1979 to 1985 at the Technical University of Munich. Following his studies he continued at the university as a scientific assistant at the research institute for gear wheels and gear manufacturing, obtaining his doctorate in the process. His professional career began at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG (commercial vehicles) in Munich. From 2006 to 2009 he was member of the board of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG responsible for technology and purchasing. In 2009 he founded kvs consulting, which specializes in the automotive sector. He is managing director of this company. Schaller has been an enthusiastic motorcycle rider for 35 years.
