BMW Picks Up Eleven 2014 Motorrad Magazine Awards

BMW Motorrad received a total of nine awards in the German Motorrad magazine “Motorcycle of the Year 2014” readers’ choice awards including three category victories. BMW Motorrad has never won so many top places in the reader survey before. As was the case last year, the BMW HP4 took first place in the “Sports Bike” category with a 27 percent vote. There was a three-way sweep in the “Touring Bike” category with the K1600GT/GTL scoring a victory (18.2 percent), the R1200RT taking second (17.6 percent) and F800GT coming third (15 percent).

Once again Motorrad readers gave the top spot in the “Trial/Enduros” category to the R1200GS with almost a quarter of the vote. Rounding out the list of motorcycle awards, the K1300S took third in the “Allrounder” category,  the new R nineT took second among “Naked Bikes” while the C600 Sport/C650GT and the C evolution electric scooter took second and third respectively in the “Scooters” class.

“I am very pleased with the excellent result achieved by our motorcycles and wish to thank the readers of Motorrad magazine for this seal of approval. We see this as both an incentive and a responsibility. I am particularly pleased with our three-fold success in the “Touring Bike” category as this reflects the absolute key area of expertise of our brand for over 90 years,” said Stephan Schaller, President of BMW Motorrad, referring to the vote.

In a separate section of “Best Brands,” BMW Motorrad managed to score two more awards. BMW Motorrad was awarded third place with 34.6 percent of voters for its textile gear. Also they placed third for the BMW Motorrad back protectors, which received 26.2 percent of the readers’ votes in this product segment.

The prizes were presented on March 17, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany. The 16th “Motorbike of the Year 2014” prizes attracted votes from 45,707 readers – about 50 percent more than in the previous year. Readers chose their favorites in eight categories. Since 1999, more than half a million readers have participated in this vote.
