Valerie Thompson Heads to the Texas Mile

Speed freaks are getting ready for the new motorsport season, where they will aim to set personal best times and chase new records on a variety of high-performance machinery. Among them will be one of the world’s fastest BMW racers, Valerie Thompson, who will be returning to contest the Texas Mile event on her S1000RR. The five-time land speed record holder will make the journey from Scottsdale, Arizona, to Beeville, Texas, for her first speed competition of the 2014 season – the Texas Mile – which takes place from March 21-23, 2014. Thompson set a personal best top speed of 212 mph (339 km/h) during last year’s event on her record-setting BMW RR.

This bi-annual Motorsports Festival has been created for high-performance vehicle enthusiasts and welcomes motorcycles, performance street cars, race cars and land speed racers. The Texas Mile has grown rapidly since its inaugural event in October 2003. Participants come from all over the United States, Canada and Mexico to test themselves and their motorized equipment on the fastest and most challenging one-mile track in the world.

“Exceeding last year’s top speed of 212 mph will be no easy feat, but I’m confident about all the work we’ve done in the off-season to make this BMW even faster,” says Valerie. “Some of the improvements and modifications we’ve done include an Akrapovic high-performance exhaust system, alpha Racing LED Dashboard and a Race Data Logger provided by HP Race Parts. We will also test Magic Bullet Advanced Fuel treatment for the first time.

“Last year was my first time to compete in the Texas Mile and we delivered a very strong performance. I love racing here; it’s an excellent racecourse and is a well run and unique event for speed junkies,” continues Thompson. “The weather should be ideal with midday temperatures expected in the mid-70s and no rain in the forecast, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

“In addition to working on the BMW this winter, I’ve been busy seeking new team funding and sponsorship, which is always a full-time job for an independent team owner. I’m delighted BMW Motorrad HP Race Parts and CTEK have extended their support of VTR for the full 2014 season. We also have new sponsorship programmes with Magic Bullet Advanced Fuel Treatment, Akrapovic, Speed-Way Shelters and alpha Racing.”
