BMW Motorrad’s November 2014 sales have helped it top its record sales for all of last year with another month still remaining. Through November, BMW Motorrad sold 7.0% more motorcycles and maxi scooters worldwide (116,463 versus 108,872 through November 2013). This puts sales above the record figure of 115,215 units achieved in 2013. In November sales of 7,411 units were 0.9% higher than the strong showing in November 2013. (7,342 units).
Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing, said, “One month before the end of the year we have supplied 116,463 vehicles to our customers, thereby already surpassing last year’s record sales figure. This excellent retail result is mainly due to solid growth in the European markets, Asia and the USA. The sales figure for Germany, our largest individual market, is just above last year’s high level.”
Demand continues to be strong for our R series models launched in 2014 with the new air/liquid-cooled boxer engine, as well as for the retro air-oil-cooled BMW R nineT and the sporty four-cylinder S1000R roadster. As Heiner Faust adds, “Clearly we are appealing very effectively to our customers with all our new models. Our shooting star is the R nineT, which has made it from zero to fourth place on our bestseller list as of November. Meanwhile, our new supersports bike for model year 2015 – the S1000RR – has received outstanding reviews in the motorcycle press. We are very much looking forward to seeing the first comparative tests among current competitors. We are also getting very positive market signals for our other four new motorshow presentations, the R1200R roadster, the sports touring bike R1200RS and the S1000XR in the new Adventure-Sport segment, as well as the mid-range model F800R. So as the year draws to a close we are not only looking at a new sales record but also excellent prospects for further growth in 2015.”
BMW Motorrad USA, meanwhile, reported sales of 833 motorcycles in November, an increase of 1.5% above the total of 821 motorcycles sold in November 2013. The new-for-2014 R1200GS Adventure was the best performing model in the month with 140 deliveries, helping drive growth of 66% in R-Series sales with 475 boxers sold compared to 287 a year ago. BMW Motorrad USA continues to perform ahead of last year, up 4.9% after 11 months and remains on track to establish a new all-time record volume for the brand in the United States in 2014.
