A few weeks ago, we brought you news of BMW’s first authority fleet of electric C evolution scooters being delivered to local police in Barcelona, Spain. Now 15 of the the highly efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles have arrived on the Italian island of Sardinia. The local police in Sardinia’s capital of Cagliari were presented with the Authority version of the scooters by Massimo Zedda, mayor of Cagliari, as well as other representatives of the city council, plus the police chief, Mario Delogu.
“We are proud to equip the local police in Cagliari with 15 new BMW C evolution scooters.” said Stefano Ronzoni, head of BMW Motorrad Italia. “Equipping motorcycle-mounted police with BMW vehicles is something of a time-honored tradition at BMW Motorrad. Since 2001, police forces in Italy have placed their faith in BMW motorcycles such as the R850RT, F650GS, R1150RT and R1200RT as well as the F700GS. And now the BMW C evolution electric scooter is among their number as well.”
The C evolution scooters made for police use are basically the same as the civilian version. They have the same nominal power of 11 kW (15 hp) and peak power of 35 kW (47.5 hp) giving them a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) and range of about 100 km (62 miles) before requiring a recharge. The police vehicles, however, are fitted with additional equipment such as a loudspeaker and signaling equipment.
