Racing Update: BMW S1000RR Wins in Britain and Brazil

The BMW Motorrad Motorsport racers had a successful weekend in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) series. In the Superbike class, Richard Cooper (GB) stepped onto the podium again, while his fellow BMW riders secured their first ever top-five lockout for the BMW S1000RR in the Superstock class. The RR was also victorious in the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK), with Danilo Lewis (BR) celebrating his second win of the season boldly.

British Superbike Championship in Brands Hatch, Great Britain.

The short Indy Circuit at Brands Hatch (GB) hosted the third round of the 2016 British Superbike Championship (BSB). The weekend saw another podium finish for the BMW S1000RR in the closely fought Superbike class (BSB SBK): Richard Cooper finished second in race two on Sunday on his Buildbase BMW S1000RR. In race one, he just narrowly missed the podium, crossing the line in fourth only 0.3 seconds behind the top-three. Michel Laverty (GB / Tyco BMW) was sixth in race one but had to retire in the second heat due to a technical problem. His teammate Christian Iddon (GB) ended the thrilling races in 11th and seventh respectively. Lee Jackson (GB) also collected points in both races on the other Buildbase BMW RR, finishing in 15th and 12th respectively. Alastair Seeley (GB / Royal Airforce Regular & Reserve) claimed a top-15 finish in race two with 14th.

In the Superstock class (BSB STK) race, the BMW racers achieved a milestone for the RR in the series, claiming a sensational top-five lockout. Taylor MacKenzie (GB / Buildbase BMW Motorrad) led from start to finish, celebrated his second win of the season and extended his overall championship lead. In the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, MacKenzie improved from 15th to fourth. Second and third places went to the Tyco BMW pairing of Ian Hutchinson (GB) and Joshua Elliott (GB). Michael Rutter (GB / Bathams / SMT) was fourth and Alex Olsen (GB) completed the top five on team Power Projects Racing RR.

In total, nine BMW racers finished the race in the points: Hudson Kennaugh (ZA / Trikomoto Bahnstormer BMW) was ninth, Rob Mc Nealy (GB / McNealy Brown Ltd.) was 11th, Leon Jeacock (GB / Geo E Davis Racing) crossed the line in 13th and Billy Mellor (GB / Mellor Racing) came home in 15th.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport racer Danilo Lewis (BR) is the dominant rider in the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK). At the second round of the season, held in Sao Paulo (BR) last weekend, Lewis celebrated his second win of the season. He crossed the line on his TecFil Racing Team BMW S1000RR with an advantage of nearly ten seconds. In doing so, he also extended his lead in the championship. Sebastiano Zerbo (BR / BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing) finished fourth, while Diego Petrel (BR / Spiga Racing) and Alex Borges (BR / PRT – Pitico Racing Team) also collected points in ninth and 13th respectively.
