BMW took home four prizes from The Spark 10th Annual International Awards — a multi-disciplinary design competition which included hundreds of design from around the world. For its innovative concept and groundbreaking design, the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 was awarded the Spark Design Award 2016, the highest award in the competition. In addition, the BMW R nineT Scrambler received a bronze award while the BMW Vision Next 100 and the BMW 2002 Homage auto concepts received a Gold and Bronze awards respectively. The excellent models asserted themselves against hundreds of designs from all over the world
This year, the jury honored the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 with the highest award in the transport category, “proving that a vision of future premium mobility on two wheels for the coming decades can be realized with a thoroughly inspiring design language.” The concept shows the BMW Group’s future understanding of motorcycling in a networked world: as an analog experience in a digital time. The design team takes up and interprets the striking elements from the BMW Motorrad history, such as the black triangle frame, the white liner and the classic shape of the boxer motor, in which an emission-free drive unit operates. The past and future of BMW Motorrad are thus combined in an expressive form.
The BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 uses the possibilities of the digital world to raise the analog driving experience on a motorcycle to a new level. The basis for the special experience of freedom is the intelligent networking of drivers, motorbikes and the environment. The BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 is a symbol for the ultimate driving experience. Without helmet and other protective clothing, the driver feels centrifugal forces, acceleration, wind and nature. The concept bike was presented in October 2016 in Los Angeles as the last of four vision models of the brands of the BMW Group.
The jury also honored the BMW R nineT Scrambler with the bronze award. Their primordial character beyond established conventions is made for motorcycle fans, who love the puristic, reduced and nonconformity. Coupled with the technology and quality of a BMW, it lets the Scrambler era revive in a special way.
Two BMW automobiles also received awards. The golden Spark Design Award in the transport category went to the BMW Vision Next 100, which combines BMW’s typical driving pleasure with permanent networking, digital intelligence and the latest technologies in its expressive design. The intelligent systems make the driver the “Ultimate Driver” and provide the ultimate driving pleasure or bring the driver autonomously to the desired destination.
The BMW 2002 Hommage received the award in bronze. Its design honors one of the most significant vehicles in BMW history with an exciting and modern interpretation.
