BMW Motorrad is bringing back the BoxerCup. The original single-marque racing series, which ran from 2001 to 2004, featured identically prepared BMW R1100S motorcycles. The new BMW Motorrad BoxerCup 2.0 will start racing in 2018 with up to 30 teams competing on identical BMW R nineT Race models modified for use on the racetrack. The identical nature of the machines should lead to exciting and close racing, as it did during the original series. The BMW Motorrad BoxerCup 2.0 will be held alongside the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) 2018.
The BoxerCup 2.0 R nineT Racer has the same 1,170cc oil/air-cooled boxer engine making 110 hp (81 kW) as the production version. Side stands, mirrors, license plate, turn signals and lighting system are removed for the race use. However, the vehicle is roadworthy after the season and after dismantling to the original condition. This special version has the following special equipment:
- Fork conversion by Wilbers
- Shock absorbers from Wilbers
- Cylinder head covers, engine spoiler, rear end of Ilmberger
- Akrapovič sports muffler and titanium manifold
- Brembo brake pads
- “High End” steering damper by Müller Präzision
- BMW Motorrad ABS with racing software
If you would like to participate, you’ll need to be over 18 years of old, hold a national B license (or higher) or a comparable license from another FIM Federation. A further prerequisite for participation is the acquisition of a maximum of 30 BMW R nineT Racer motorcycles in the special BoxerCup trim. It’s possibility to sign up to four drivers for one vehicle.
