Nine BMW motorcycles received awards from German Motorrad magazine’s annual reader’s vote. The BMW R1200RS won in the “Touring Bike/Sports Touring Bike” category while the S1000XR took the crown in the “Crossover” category. The XR dominated with a commanding a 24.2 percent share of the vote and was, once again, the most highly ranked model among readers in 2018.
The R1200RT completed the “Touring Bike/Sports Touring Bike” podium with a third place finish. In its ninth model year, the S1000RR just missed out on victory, finishing second in the “Sports” category. The R nineT also took second in the category “Modern Classics” with a healthy 18.9 percent vote share. This is a particularly good result considering the vote was split among its “Heritage” siblings with the R nineT Pure and R nineT Scrambler also receiving good results.
Meanwhile, a perennial favorite, the R1200GS took second place and led an impressive showing among BMW’s Adventure models. Among the “Naked Bikes,” the unfaired R1200R was able to defend its second place from the previous year. In the “Scooter” category, second place went to the emissions-free C evolution and third place to the C650 Sport/C650GT.
The award ceremony was held on March 12, 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany. This year, 51,497 readers voted on a total of 206 motorcycle models as part of Motorrad’s “2018 Motorcycle of the Year” awards.
