The BMW Motorrad dealer network has supplied police forces around the world with motorcycles for many years. The latest French order of BMW motorcycles was proudly on display on Bastille Day, with a squadron of R1200RT-mounted Republican Guard bikes making an appearance at the oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe.
On the morning of Sunday, July 14, the French Republican Guard fleet escorted the presidential motorcade from the Élysée Palace – the official residence of the President of the French Republic – to the Place de l’Etoile. Upon his arrival, President François Hollande welcomed General Hervé Charpentier, military governor of Paris, before taking a seat on a command vehicle for the drive down the Champs-Elysées that was decorated with flags for the annual parade that takes place every Bastille Day.
The first BMW R1200RT ‘Authorities’ motorcycles were delivered to the French police in April, when the police motorcycle squad of the Republican Guard took delivery of 35 BMW R1200RT machines. At the same time, French customs motorcycle officers received 20 new BMW R1200RT ‘customs-specification’ bikes.
The R1200RT carries forward BMW’s long-running ideology of riding in supreme comfort. Many thousands of Boxer-engine owners will testify to this, as do the thousands of police officers who are carrying out their daily duties onboard a Boxer-powered BMW.
BMW Motorrad is credited as being the largest supplier of authority-based motorcycles today and the brand will be providing more Authorities motorcycles to the French market over the next three years. By the end of 2013, BMW Motorrad will deliver approximately 190 ‘Authorities’ specification BMW R1200RT bikes for the needs of the local Police, Gendarmerie, Customs and Escort riders.
