BMW Motorrad has released hundreds of new images of the upcoming 2016 BMW S1000XR which was first unveiled at the 2014 International Motorcycle Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan, Italy last November. Although BMW didn’t provide any new information about their first “crossover” motorcycle, we have all the specs in our initial news article. And be sure to check out all the new photos in the gallery below. The XR is expected to arrive in dealerships soon as a 2016 model.
To recap, this is the fourth model in the S-series and heavily based on the S1000R sport roadster. It has the same 160 hp, 83 lb-ft inline four cylinder engine, frame and suspension components while the chassis geometry has been updated the fit the specific differences of this new model. BMW calls this an “adventure sport” model which is a mix of the “characters and strengths of the BMW Motorrad GS, touring and sport models on a visual level as well to create a new breed of motorcycle.” This model has the ground clearance, long travel suspension and sit-up styling of a GS combined with wind/weather protection and hard bags from BMW’s touring models. Then there is the unmistakable power of the liquid-cooled engine and superior handling hardware and software from BMW’s sport models.
