Blacked-out F800R Available in Italy

While BMW motorcycles are available in a range of colors, recent all-black versions have become an exotic, stylish choice with mass-appeal. “Triple Black” versions of the F800GS, R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure have sold well in the last couple of years. So, it’s no surprise BMW would come out with another all black version, this time a special Sapphire Black BMW F800R. Unfortunately, it’s currently available only in the Italian market.

This Italian F800R caught the attention of Italian Superbike World Championship racers Marco Melandri and Michel Fabrizio, who were only too happy to pose with the aggressively-styled naked roadster at the recent SBK weekend in Monza. The two WSBK stars joined a photo-shoot on the roof of the legendary Autodromo di Monza’s paddock building, where the sun kindly shone for the pictures, even though the race weekend itself was a washout.

This particular version is available exclusively for the Italian market at present. With its all-black paint, the F800R looks even more aggressive than its sister models, even though it is available at no extra charge. The Black Sapphire Metallic paint finish enhances the urban roadster’s lines and highlights its main components. Everything that can be, is colored black, from the engine components and wheels, to the brake pads, panels, screen, swing arm, headlight casing and radiator.

For BMW Motorrad Italia Marketing Manager Salvatore Nanni, the new color F800R is a welcome addition to the model range, made even cooler by the endorsements of BMW Motorrad Motorsport factory rider and WSBK race winner, Marco Melandri, and BMW Motorrad Italia Goldbet SBK Team rider, Michel Fabrizio.

“It was a great photo-shoot and we were very lucky with the weather, considering it rained most of the weekend at Monza,” Salvatore said. “We wanted some cool pictures with a dynamic background to highlight the F800R’s appeal to a young urban crowd, so this took us up on the roof of the paddock building as well as down pit-lane. Involving two of our Italian WSBK riders worked well, especially as they are wearing clothing from our own Lifestyle Collection. This special F800R is already available in the Italian BMW Motorrad dealers and we’re supporting the model with a new and innovative communication idea involving a young target market.”
