The new year is here and with it comes the new, exciting 2014 BMW models we’ve been hearing so much about! The latest issue of BMW Motorcycle Magazine covers all the recent new model launches, road tests on the S1000R, R1200GS and F800GS, a special section on five unique custom boxers, reviews on the latest products on the market and BMW news from around the globe.
First up is a ride on BMW’s newly launched BMW S1000R power roadster. Three years in the making, this model is definitely not just a naked version of the popular S1000RR. With 160hp, massive mid-range torque, street-riding comfort and less weight, the S1000R demands attention for more than just its affordable price.
An introduction to 2014’s next generation BMW R1200RT follows, revealing not only its highly-anticipated water-cooled engine but a myriad of innovations from other models along with some surprises no one could have predicted. A look at BMW’s new special edition BMW K1600GTL Exclusive with its Keyless Ride and Hill Start Control will impress every tech lover.
Meet a couple of impressive BMW women: a self-taught mechanic who built her own bike from a box of BMW parts, and a solo adventure rider attempting a globe-circling ride on her G650GS. Next up is a section on five custom boxers from workshops and garages found in Alaska, France, Italy and Germany. Two well-known designers also show off their radically different visions for BMW’s new R nineT: the Track Grinder from Berlin and the Chrome Cage from Paris. And for another style entirely, Touratech’s CEO is interviewed about his personally designed and built R1200 Rallye bike, which he describes as the motorcycle of his dreams.
The Garage section in this issue explains the proper fuel-air mix in different BMWs and how to detect when something’s gone wrong. Destinations takes us to the little island (by Australian standards) of Tasmania for a ride under down-under. The other side of the world is represented with a day-ride map of the 100-mile Three Sisters loop through the Texas Hill Country.
All this, plus advice on developing good mental skills for everyday street riding, the latest racing news, opinions from columnists, a calendar of upcoming BMW motorcycle events, and more in the Spring 2014 issue!
