On the heels of a record-setting sales year and the launch of three new models, BMW Motorrad has introduced two more models including one that opens an entirely new market for them. The Spring 2015 issue of BMW Motorcycle Magazine has the reveal of the new 2016 BMW S1000XR “Adventure Sport” — a concept similar to the automotive SUV. We’ve been supplying you with rumors of this new model for the past two years and the official news is now out. The XR combines the best of all worlds with the comfortable ergonomics of the popular GS, aggressive 160 horsepower of the S1000R, as well as the weather protection and hard bags of BMW’s well-respected touring line.
The second new model is the F800R roadster, a reintroduction into the US market. What’s not to like about about a balance of low-cost mid-weight riding fun, exciting new looks and fuel thriftiness?
The BMW Motorcycle Magazine’s spring issue also features a total of 15 unique and stunning customized motorcycles from classic boxer Airheads to newer Oilheads as well as special K-bikes. They show what can be done with reliable BMW basics and a bit of imagination. For readers who would prefer something off the showroom floor, the complete 2015 model lineup with pricing and availability dates in the US, is featured as well.
The magazine’s long-term R1200GS test bike has reached 12,000 miles and gets an evaluation, servicing and new tires. The “Thirst for Oil” article answers the “burning” questions of how much is too much oil consumption in air-cooled boxer engines as well as explaining how is it consumed and why. The Garage section also reviews how an R1200GS Adventure is converted to a sidecar scrambler, making a fun on- and off-road riding alternative.
The Gear section gives readers a sneak peek at what will be seen around BMW rallies and events this summer. Tested products include a new heated vest, waterproof riding jeans, expedition-level shocks, and a nifty R1200GS brake lever and screen reinforcement.
This issue’s Destinations section reveals the hidden glens, lochs and moors of Scotland for the vacation of a lifetime, while the favorite US ride maps out the Pig Trail scenic byway of Arkansas for a quick weekend outing. All this, plus the latest BMW international news, advice and opinions from columnists, a calendar of upcoming BMW motorcycle events, and more are in the Spring 2015 issue!
