Leon Haslam’s Debut on the S1000RR

2010 World Superbike Championship runner-up and newest BMW Motorrad Motorsport factory rider Leon Haslam made a special appearance at the British Superbike season finale. Leon was visiting the circuit to meet fans, sign autographs and perform some demonstration laps to entertain the crowds between races. He also took the opportunity to cheer on his friend and fellow BMW rider Steve Brogan who has been racing an S1000RR in the British Superbikes’ new Evolution class, which features superbike chassis with production engines. Steve went on to take a win and two second places in the weekend’s races, which secured him the first ever BSB-EVO title.

Leon Haslam came straight to Oulton Park from World Superbike testing in Magny-Cours, France. Haslam had been enjoying his first outing on his BMW Motorrad Motorsport S1000RR which he’ll be riding in 2011 alongside experienced teammate Troy Corser.

Haslam took to the track on both Saturday and Sunday on a Superstock S1000RR, kindly lent to him by Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad rider Richard Cooper. During his time on track, Leon treated the spectators to a dazzling display of machine control, performing wheelies and stoppies, all to the delight of the 40,000-strong crowds. Leon said: “Oulton Park is a favorite circuit of mine and I enjoy visiting here. I came straight over from testing at Magny-Cours where we’d had rain, so to be greeted by unseasonably good weather was a treat!

“I’m very excited about riding the S1000RR for BMW Motorrad Motorsport next year and it was great fun getting back on one and doing some big wheelies to give the crowd a bit of a show! And it was brilliant to be able to cheer on my friend Steve Brogan, who took the BSB-EVO title with Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad!”

Leon’s winter schedule looks to be absolutely packed with a number of tests with his new World Superbike team, personal appearances at motorcycle shows and even finding the time to get married to his fiancée Olivia Stringer!
